Beautiful Genova
May 15th, 2008Where Christopher Columbus was from and from where the first jeans pants have been shipped (in 1600). It is the city of pesto… focaccia is from around there too.
Alitalia Business Class
April 13th, 2007After another 3 months in US it’s time to go back to Italy again. It is supposed to be spring, but in Boston there has been snow in the early morning and rain by the time I reached the airport… and when everything was grey… surprise, upgraded to business class . I’ll tell you, it is awesome to feel at home when you are still on the plane.
Why? A cool crew and, for dinner:
- White whine from Montalto Pavese as aperitif
- Pennette pasta in Pachino cherry tomato and basil sauce
- Verdicchio white wine with salmon fillet in a potato crust served with zucchini julienne and braised carrots
- Fresh fruit
- Limoncello with pastries
Oh, it happened that the hostess put some white whine of the wrong type together with the Verdicchio…. she changed the glass as soon as she realized it. Recently, in a fancy restaurant in Cambridge, the waitress, to bring away one almost empty glass, threw the end of it in the new one that was containing a different wine… they were both white, right… but still…
September… grapes
September 4th, 2006September is the month of grapes… which in Italy often means wine. One of the most famous Italian wines is the well known Brunello di Montalcino which is also quite expensive (I think it is something about 40 euros a bottle). I usually prefer some less expensive but still really good wines like Bonarda (from Piemonte) and Gutturnio (from Colli Piacentini in the Emilia-Romagna region).
